The Cinematic Orchestra – Ma Fleur

The UK brings us Jason Swinscoe’s London outfit, The Cinematic Orchestra, with their third album Ma Fleur, released in 2007. A blend of jazz and electronic downtempo, this album includes several tracks penned and performed with Canadian singer-songwriter Patrick Watson. The tracks flow from quiet and reflective to a crescendo chorus, with moments of reflection and peace. It’s calming yet intense, and the more you listen the more depth you’ll hear.

The late Fontella Bass, the American R&B and soul singer/songwriter best known for her 1965 hit “Rescue Me”, features on Familiar and Breathe. These represent the album perfectly with melancholic vocals and simple, powerful lyrics. The album is all atmosphere and space. Delicious.
