Pond started out in Perth, 2008, as a collaborative music project with ties so close to Tame Impala that it’s hard to see them apart. Kevin Parker is one of the writers, producers and live frontman of Tame Impala as well as being a former Pond member and their current producer; Jay Watson is a full time member of both bands and and they share crew on live acts.
Pond’s 2017 album The Weather has a heavier, more rock influenced sound than the dream-pop extravaganza Tame Impala. To drawing comparisons between the two bands would be inappropriate desipte the connections. You could define The Weather as a concept album, but it is also a polished and clear expression of what makes Pond such a great band.
The riff pushing Paint Me Silver forward perfectly entwines with the bass, and leads us into some sort of euphoria. Colder Than Ice brings that classic 80’s synth sound, A / B hits us with high tempo and bold drums, with the dreamy Edge of the World (Pt. 1 and 2) sugar coating the album with some psychedelic fantasy. It simply doesn’t get better than this.
