Born in Georgia, US, her parents divorced and she moved with her mother to Paris. Her teenage years were spent busking on the Parisien streets and eventually she embarked on a tour of Europe with her band. Spin forward to 2004 and she’s entering her 30’s and releasing her second album, Careless Love, eight years after her first full length album Dreamland, a collection of covers from the 1930/40’s.
Jazzy vibes are strong with this one, and all songs covers except Don’t wait too long – an addictive and poinient song with atmospheric production and excellent lyrics. Peyroux’s uncanny vocal resemblance to Billie Holiday and the old greats envokes a sense of timelessness.
“if you think that time will change your ways, don’t wait too long”.
This album brough Peyroux into the spotlight, and deservedly so.
